Our ‘plant of the month’ for November is the Cyclamen Hederifolium. It is a hardy cyclamen which grows to about 10-15cm and offers a long season of interest from early autumn through to spring.
It is also known as the ivy-leaved cyclamen because of its distinctive, ivy-shaped foliage. The delicately scented, upright flowers can range from pure white to rich magenta pink, while the attractively marbled, heart-shaped leaves form a beautiful, ground-covering canopy that endures throughout winter.
They thrive in partial shade, planted in well-drained soil, ideally in a rock garden or container plants but will look particularly effective when planted en-masse in a woodland setting, paired with ferns and other shade-tolerant plants. It is an excellent plant for spreading naturally through self-seeding, gradually spreading to create attractive carpets of flowers and foliage.
