Our plant of the month for July is the Verbena Bonariensis.
It is a tall herbaceous perennial with erect, branching stems which grow up to 2 metres in height, bearing sparse, oblong leaves.
Numerous branched clusters of small, lilac-purple flowers appear from summer to autumn; these are a fantastic nectar source for pollinating insects, such as bees and butterflies.
They also add architecture to your broader borders, or can flirt with plants and pathways.
Top tip; If you’d like more of these plants, let them go to seed before cutting down.
